HPN WEBINAR

The Coming Decade in Health Professions Workforce Development

Workforce projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics continue to show the health care industry as having the greatest opportunity for growth. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides grant funds for education, but the prospect of some form of health care reform throws a bit of uncertainty into the picture. What do we need to focus on as the new workforce trends and needs for the next ten years?? What impact does this have for health careers education programs?? Other questions of concern include:

  • What are the new 2008-2018 Bureau of Labor Statistics workforce projections for health personnel and how much confidence can educational program planners and other put in the projections?
  • Are U.S. health professions schools producing too few, too many, or just the right amount of graduates to meet the future needs of the health workforce?
  • How will health reform affect the demand for various levels and kinds of health professionals as well as the educational programs that produce the graduates?
  • What are the trends occurring in the U.S. health workforce that will increase or decrease the need for various kinds of health workers and create the need for new kinds of educational programs?

These and other related questions will be addressed in a 90-minute webinar to be conducted January 27, 2010 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Health Professions Network will be sponsoring the webinar. Featured speakers are Stephen N. Collier, Ph.D., Professor, and Harold P. Jones, Ph.D., Dean and Professor, from the School of Health Professions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

HPN Capitol Hill March! – One of the major purposes of the Spring 2010 Meeting is to work on advocacy on behalf of the issues facing allied health.  To make the HPN voice heard we will spend the entire day on Thursday marching on Capitol Hill.  You will be provided with training on how to meet with your officials and what to expect from the visit.  There will be a training webinar in February for those interested and an official training will take place at the Spring 2010 meeting on Wednesday late afternoon followed by a reception at Public House Restaurant.
